Last Time at Dover Downs

I heard that Dover Downs was having their Summer Poker Open July 8-16 ending with a $550 main event on the 16th starting at noon so since it is about the same distance for me (Delaware Park vs Dover Downs), I decided to give it a try. I got their early around 9am and they only had one $1/$2 NL table open and were just in the process of opening a second $1/$2 table. I was told there was a satellite for the $550 tournament at 10am. Well 10am came and went and there were only two people signed up so it didn't happen. At noon I walked over to the registration desk and began signing up. I was informed that they only had 9 people so far and 2-10 people only pays one spot, 11-20 pays two spots. I couldn't believe they had so little interest. So I decided to drive 45 minutes north and go back to Delaware Park.

At Delaware Park I just missed the sign up period (first three levels) so decided to play some $2/$5 NL. I only got into one big hand when I limped with K5s and the flop came K5x. I bet out and received one call from an older gentlemen who already busted two players when he flopped open ended straight draws and got there both times. The turn was a five so now I have a boat. I made a slightly larger bet and was raised. I thought about it for a little while and then pushed my remaining stack of $210 and was called by the gentleman who held A5. Bingo.

Next I played the 4pm $65 tournament at 4pm and busted about 3.5 hours later when I pushed with A4s short stacked and was called by another short stack who held AT but had me barely covered. I also played the 7pm $150 tournament and got down to 16th place (16/113) but only the top 13 paid. The blinds were $3K/$6K with an ante and I called a short stack push (again he had me barely covered) with 66 and he held 77. Another wasted 5.5 hours.

So just before leaving I decided to sit down at another $2/$5 NL table with $300. I limped with QT and saw a great flop of KJ9. I bet $30 and was raised to $75 so I pushed for $230 and was called by K9 and a nine fell on the turn. He told me if I had more chips he would have folded. That’s what I like to hear.
